What is Accoya?

What is Accoya?

Accoya is an acetylated form of Radiata Pine.

General timber fibres contain an abundance of chemical groups called ‘hydroxyls’, this essentially allows general timber to absorb / release water causing the material to swell and shrink which is also one of the principal reasons that wood is prone to decay.

Acetylation is a non toxic process in which the pine is soaked in acetic anhydride (an organic compound related to vinegar)

Acetylation transforms the hydroxyl groups to (also naturally occurring) acetyl groups, causing a strong reduction of water uptake making it not only dimensionally stable but also extremely durable.

Some major benefits of using Acetylated Wood (Accoya):

-               A non-toxic, fully recyclable wood

-               Outstanding durability

-               Confidence in coating

-               Dimensionally stable

-               Wide boards

-               Improved installation efficiency

-               Can be cut or profiled without exposing unprotected surfaces

-               A high durability achieved by stopping the rot fungi from digesting wood, not by killing them with toxins

-               Accoya boards may be performed with trim free corners and mitre joints

Accoya is warranted:

50 years above ground & 25 years in ground

Why should you use a Custom Builder to 'Design/Build'?

'Design/Build' is a construction style that essentially means your new home or renovation project is designed and built in house by the same team.

The perks of design and build are wide-ranging but in short it means your project will be designed to budget and with both your vision and site considerations in mind.

As one party will look after everything, including planning, permits, contracts and construction, your house will come within budget as all parties are on the same page from day 1.

Another great benefit of design and build is that it means the client can be actively involved in the design phase of their home. Clients will have the ability to provide inspirational ideas, different finishes they may have in mind which essentially allow them to design a home that is different to the regular volume built designs.

We've narrowed down our top 6 reasons why 'Design/Build' is a great alternative:

Communication

The design and build process relies upon regular, open and honest communication for the successful completion of a project. As the client is involved at every step along the way, we ensure the entire build is transparent to ensure everyone is working towards the same vision.

Having a single channel of communication (i.e. builder – client) means communication is instantaneous and ensures issues can be resolved without delay, which improves your project schedule and timeline.

Relationships

With the right custom builder, working closely with them and their team during the design and construction phase enables you to feel comfortable, trusting and relieved that your home is in good hands. No question should feel irrelevant, no general request should feel like an impossibility. This close working relationship also ensures that everyone involved feel proud and satisfied with the end result.

 Timeline

When you have design and construction working together, your project is likely to get off the ground and move along at a better pace, which in turn will see faster, more cost-effective results. Having your project scheduled in from at an early stage will ensure minimal delays due to current work loads and in turn resulting in a quicker completion.

Teamwork

A custom builder tends to work much closer with architects, draftsmen and engineers ensuring that all of the work is a 'team effort'.

Whether it is your dream home or an investment property, all team members work collaboratively in a design and build project, using their unique expertise to elevate the overall design, process and finished product.

Single Point of Contact and Responsibility

When you work with a separate architect and builder, it can be difficult to pinpoint responsibility when issues arise. Too often the blame game will begin, which will only add stress and delays to your build journey. When you design and build, you will have one contact and one point of responsibility should a problem arise.

Cost

Your budget, feasibility and scope of works are defined early on when you design and build. With your builder involved at this stage site challenges are also identified and factored into the design process for ease of construction and efficient delivery.

(ie. current ground conditions, natural fall, councils etc)

This leads to minimal variations as a cost analysis is considered early on in the process – including all fees, construction costs, utilities and landscaping allowances. Nothing is left to chance, ensuring a clear, straightforward scope of works to start construction.)

Design and build advantages are paramount providing you have a team around you looking after your best interests.
